All Quiet on the Western Front Essay

In the novel ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ by Erich Maria Remarque, the principle character Paul Bã ¤umer’s improvement shows the detestations of the First World War and the impact it had on the youngsters who battled in it. Paul Bã ¤umer is the fundamental character whom is nineteen years of age, Bã ¤umer chipped in for the military close by four of his cohorts. A few sections in the novel is written in past tense when Paul Bã ¤umer is gathering his considerations. The greater part of the novel is written in Present tense. During the novel we see Paul Bã ¤umer changing as an individual, he has quite recently left school and is a little fellow without any encounters. Before the finish of this novel end even part of the way through he had become an all around experienced man. Paul Bã ¤umer is the primary character and furthermore the storyteller. At only nineteen years old, Bã ¤umer volunteers for the German Army. Before war is a youthful innovative and enthusiastic individual who had loads of affection for his family. As the war went on Bã ¤umer changed as an individual. Bã ¤umer and four of his colleagues joined on the grounds that they felt it was their enthusiastic obligation. Inevitably of being in the channels Bã ¤umer begins to get dreams of being in Kantoreks class as he gave his extraordinary ‘iron youth speech.’ He before long acknowledges Kantorich convinced the class to join. â€Å"During the drill time Kantorek gave us long talks until the entire of our group went under his shepherding to the District Commandant and volunteered.† Bã ¤umer felt he was doing well by his nation yet he before long feels he can’t inform anybody regarding his involvement with the military and where his families are concerned he feels like an untouchable. Individuals like Kantorek are wolves in sheep's clothing, asking youthful understudies to sign up while not chipping in himself. Kemmerich bites the dust. This is the main passing we experience as perusers in the novel which is upsetting. â€Å"I got swoon, at the same time I can not do anymore†¦ He is dead. The face is as yet wet from the tears. The eyes are half open and yellow like old horn buttons.† Bã ¤umer feels steamed and dim inside, he has quite recently lost his closest companion, and they grew up together, school mates. He is practically similar to a sibling to Bã ¤umer. I feel frustrated about Bã ¤umer now in the novel since I would prefer not to lose any of my companions or colleagues in the event that I was in the military since I figure you would require a great deal of companions and great individuals around to keep your spirits high. This is one of Bã ¤umers most significant recollections since they sought retribution on Himmelstoss. Himmelstoss was a mailman before he enrolled in the war. He is a corporal who prepares the enlisted people. Himmelstoss likes rebuffing the youthful selects and is exceptionally unforgiving and severe. â€Å"Tjaden wets his bed†¦ Himmelstoss kept up that it was sheer lethargy and created a strategy deserving of himself for restoring Tjaden†¦ with sleeping pad of wire netting.† The youngsters wound up unwell or with the cold due to this they wound up resting on the floor. Bã ¤umer and his companions sought retribution by getting him from behind with a major white bed sheet and they secured his mouth with a cushion so he was unable to shout. Tjaden pulled down Himmelstoss’ pants with a whip in his mouth. The preparation camp is brutal and loaded with trouble, I might not want to be there. Baume depicts the forefront as a strange whirlpool. â€Å"I am in still water far away from its inside. I feel the spin of the vortex sucking e gradually, overpoweringly, inevitably into itself. The cutting edge is a line along which pairing armed forces face one another and is awful on the grounds that you are up close and personal and it is extremely difficult to remain alive. Bã ¤umer feels not quite the same as every other person in his old neighborhood since he believes he is extraordinary, they are unique. He has been away for such a long time he doesn't feel comfortable any longer. He’s not only a kid any longer, he’s now a man. I feel such a great amount of regard for Bã ¤umer by this stage since he has done so well and all military men merit regard. When Bã ¤umer gets back from leave he feels obliged to chip in for a perilous night watch. While in ‘No-Man’s Land’ Bã ¤umer gets lost. Paul covers up in a shell †opening however a bomb goes off behind him when he is distant from everyone else. â€Å"This is the first occasion when I have murdered with my hands†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Bã ¤umer feels so regretful for slaughtering the French man. He begins to consider the French keeps an eye on life and his family. â€Å"If just he had run two yards further to one side, he may now be sitting in the channel over yonder and composing a letter to his wife.† This improves Bã ¤umers character since he presently acknowledges how valuable life is. Bã ¤umer feels contempt against the war and acknowledges it’s a terrible thing. I for one figure war ought to be illicit in light of the fact that what is the point in murdering people for triumph. I don’t think that’s a triumph, it’s a wrongdoing to murder. On the off chance that we are not at war you would be sent to jail and in light of the fact that its war that makes it alright? The circumstance has a great deal more terrible for the German Army by this late stage in the Novel. In this part Bã ¤umer and Katazinsky are the last two troopers alive from all the characters whom were presented toward the start of the Novel. Kat gets hit by a shrapnel now leaving him with a crushed shin. Bã ¤umer conveyed him back to camp on his back, just to find on their appearance that a splinter had hit Kat on the rear of the head and slaughtered him in transit. Kats passing makes Bã ¤umer imprudent to climate he bites the dust in war or not and furthermore he would now be able to confront an incredible remainder with no dread. I feel frustrated about Bã ¤umer now since he should feel so alone. Bã ¤umer is currently alone without a companion in the channels on the grounds that the war has removed every one of them and now Bã ¤umer is in solitude. â€Å"Let the months and years come, they can take nothing from me, they can take nothing more. I am so alone, thus without trust that I can stand up to them without fear.† Toward the finish of the novel Bã ¤umer is reckless of his life. He has changed drastically since the start. Toward the starting Paul was a little fellow with bunches of dreams, presently he is a man who is reckless. I feel fortunate that none of my family kicked the bucket during the war and it’s a passionate thing to go into. This book is significant and ought to be perused by people in the future to show how life was and that they ought to acknowledge how life was and that they should see how fortunate they are. This book causes you to have such a great amount for our warriors.

Population Problems And The Demographic Transition Model

Jonathan Crawford Population Problems/Sociology 370 First Mid-Term 19.5/20 Question #2: What is the demographic transition? What are the characteristics of populations before and after it? What are the major determinants of the transition, and what are its major consequences? What do you think will be the next stage of developed nations’ demographic development, and why? 5 points The demographic transition is, in essence, the period in which a society transitions from having a high rate of birth and a high rate of death to having a low rate of birth and a low rate of death. The demographic transition theory can be explained visually by using a demographic transition model that attempts to show how developed nations began their transformations around the 1800’s with the lesser developed nations following behind at an increasing rate. The idea behind all of this is that the more industrialization a nation goes through, the lower the birth rates and the mortality rates of its citizens becomes. The demographic transition theory itself is separa ted into 5 stages. The first stage is the time period prior to an age of industrialization. At this stage, the rate of births was/is high due to the overwhelming need for a steady flow of workers, or farm hands in the agricultural areas. The rate of infant mortality also has an effect on the need for a high birth rate as the family needed to ensure a sustained replenishment in order to remain a functional unit. Is the Illuminati for real and do they have influence on us today? The name Illuminati was introduced to me a few years back. After listening to the person that spoke of it and doing a brief search, I was truly puzzled as to whether this was fact or fiction. I asked my parents and a few friends, and they had never heard of the secret Illuminati society. If so who? What current challenges would be solved by implementing your new proposal would the proposed system create any new problems? For a new health care system I would impliment free health care for the poor and elderly. No longer would people that are struggling on a day to day basis have to pay for there medications or hospital bills. Also I think that everyone that recieves the free health care should be drug tested. This would prevent people abusing the government. I think that everyone would benefit from this new system in the long run. I think this because even though the wealthy would be paying more in taxes, ultimatly for the people that cannot afford it, it would be fair for everyone. I believe that if you have money for frivolous things then you should help someone that is less fortunate. The wealthy population may feel as a disadvante in this situation, however it is what we need in society to get out of debt and have fairness for everyone. The current challenges with the current health care system would mostly be the cost. Many americans cannot afford to get their medications that are crucial for survival, others are stuggling under a pile of debt. My new health care system would solve these problems. No longer will poor americans have to struggle and wonder if they will make it through the following week. They wont have to worry about the pile of hospital bills on their counter. This will also prevent stress in americans. The less stress that a person has the less likley they are to get sick, and it even reduces the chances of a heart attack. I think that this new system may cause some new problems, just like every new system, however I think that it will help more than it would have the opposite effect.

My Palace

My Palace My Palace I want to live my life without the rush routine. Therefore, I sought for a nice, calm place, where nothing will disturb me. Moreover, I found a place, where I would build my house of dream. Lombok, the island in Indonesia is my place of choice. My house would be a three-floor building made of wood. Garden, mostly strict, but containing bright spots of local flowers, will surround the house. It will be looked after by a gardener, who will live in his own house on its territory. In the backyard of the house there will be a huge swimming pool, with a couple of beach chairs and surrounded with native flora of Indonesia. Next to the swimming pool will be a garage with the car and a boat so I could drive the coastline and to go to sea. There is a lot of free space on the first floor. The parquet floor is made of oak. Near the door, there is a little table with a vintage phone on it. The living room will occupy the largest part of the first floor. There will be a huge plasma hanging over the fireplace. A big sofa and a couple of armchairs, complemented with a large cow skin carpet on the floor, will allow me to relax while watching my favorite programs every day. Bright colors and post-modern paintings, like Andy Warhol works, will cover the walls. All of the furniture on this floor will be made of natural materials, like cherry, but still looking vintage enough due to its 60s and 70s design. The orange-painted wall separates the living room from the dining room and kitchen, with an oak table, huge enough for 6 person and vintage cherry chairs. Candy bottles, plastic tea, coffee, and powder containers, along with old-fashioned salt and paper shakers are occupying shelves above the stove. There my chef would prepare my favorite meals, and traditional dishes. The second floor will be as big as the first one, pretty much the same in design, but separated in more parts. The rooms for guests, chef, and house cleaner will be here. Tiles in different colors will decorate the bathrooms for guests and housekeeping personnel, so they could avoid entering each others rooms. In addition, my working place with my PC and Internet access will be on the second floor. Next to my working place, there will be a room with three closets, built in wall units, and a big mirror, so I could enjoy the dressing process. The basement will be big, but it will not be the basement in this common meaning. My private home theater will occupy the bigger part of it. There will be three rows of extremely soft and comfortable armchairs, going downward to the big screen. Black paint and movie posters, mostly from 60s, will cover the walls. The second part of this place will be my gym. All necessary pieces of gym equipment will be present. The lamps will be built-in in the ceiling; a huge mirror will cover the entire wall. Black-and-white photos of different bodybuilders will cover the white walls. At last, my bedroom and bathroom will occupy entire third floor. Not the walls, but color stripes will separate the bedroom into parts. A combination of green and blue colors on the walls will create the atmosphere of peace and calmness. An old-school alarm clock on the night table, lava lamps of different colors, posters of long gone actors and famous in the mid-century bands, vinyl disk player and dream catcher, hanging over the bed will remind of 60s. The window will be in all length of the wall, and there will be a telescope near it so I could watch the stars at night. This room will also have a large wardrobe, where I will store the clothes for my everyday life. Bathroom will have a jacuzzi in it; light blue tiles will cover the walls and the floor. In addition, I would have a kitchen elevator so I could order some drinks while taking a bath and plasma mounted on the wall. This is how I imagine my house of dream. I will do my best to make this dream come true.

Operating management 222 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Operating management 222 - Assignment Example This is the reason behind the need for a new floor design by the Hubcafe. Introduction This is a critical analysis of requisite operation management aspects that will improve the quality of services, efficiency and overall sales volume of the Hub cafe. It is important to note that operation management is a cardinal tool for overseeing various activities and making informed decisions concerning resources allocation based on priority with the aim of maximizing efficiency and minimizing cost. In this case, the management needs to put several factors into consideration when drawing the best plan that would see the cafe improve its efficiency and meet the high demand of customers (Raturi & Evans,2005). This would include the concept of queuing which significantly affects the rate of service delivery to the customers and overall performance of the staff (Meachem, 2005). It is important to make a good floor plan that would increase the space of service and cut o the cost of maintenance and this explains the need for an efficiency based structural design of the interior part of the Hub cafe (Moe, 2010). Being an eating point, the number of clients arriving will significantly depend on the time of the day such that peak and off-peak will definitely apply. The floor plans are two for kitchen and the shop with an aim of regulating the smooth flow of service delivery, easy accommodation at peak period, efficient management of queues and general visual impression of the interior design of the cafe. Aim of the project The increasing pressure from customer demands and threat of competition from other business operators compels the management to undertake reforms and improve several aspects of the cafe‘s performance. This project is therefore focused on effecting structural changes in terms of interior design of the kitchen and shop so that movement of staff, clients and peak factors are taken into consideration (Baraban & Durocher, 2010). This would work towards attaini ng customer satisfaction and improved quality of the Hubcafe services delivery. This plan will equally set precedence for future changes within the organizational culture of best quality services with highest efficiency by the Hubcafe. Present operations The Hub cafe is a eating point where several foods and snacks are served for 12hours. It offers both take-away products and has a space to accommodate customers who wish to take their meals within. The mode of service is self-service and this means there is queuing and several staff is assigned different counters from cash payment point to actual product delivery counters. There is another group of the kitchen department who has the defining responsibility of ensuring constant production and supply of the various foodstuffs. Another group of staff are on the lookout and stands by to attend the customers in the event of any urgent need or additional purchase. The reception point is located at the entrance for minor enquiries pertaini ng to variety of services and products on offer to reduce the time cost of information search within the cafe. Depending on the time of the day, the number of staff on various service counters is altered to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness. Challenges The current interior design is in line with a floor plan which is relatively strained to accommodate the larger customer number at the peak hours. This

Economic Integration Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 6500 words

Economic Integration Law - Essay Example They represent free trade area while resulting in trade creation by shifting the production of some items from less efficient member countries to more efficient member countries. Regional economic integration encourages countries in a geographic region to reduce or remove tariff and non-tariff barriers which allow free flow of goods and services among them. At the end, the system promotes global business (OPPapers.com, 2011). In recent years, international trade has been witnessed an emergence of two parallel trends, the first one is the rise of regionalism, and the second one is legalism in the enforcement trade agreements. In case of regionalism, there is a host of new integration initiatives drawn along the geographical lines. The two trends have succeeded to garner scholarly attention and spark comparative analysis of regional versus multilateral arrangements. And, at the same time they lead debate regarding the political dynamics of judicialisation within individual facts. Trade facts at regional level exhibits considerable variation in governance structures which are an interesting factor. Moreover, a question of institutional design has proven contentious in recent trade negotiations which underscore their political salience. The creation of supranational institutions in regional trade agreements have direct implications for the academic debates in related to globalisation, sovereignty, and interdependence (Smith, J. 2003). Post Second World War witnessed a prominence of multilateralism and regionalism as more and more countries joined the process of economic integration. We can see the trend during the period 1940-1990. In the process of economic integration, countries those who have entered into the free trade area have introduced several measures for the easy flow of goods and services between the member countries. As a result role played by tariffs in international trade has been declined. Generally countries used trade barriers such as customs, quot as, taxes, duties, anti dumping measures, health, environmental, and safety certification requirements, countervailing duties, constitutional laws, and licenses for the restriction of trade. But, when countries entered into the economic integration, these restrictions have been liberalised for the facilitation of free trade movement. Agreements at regional level which are known as Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) generally restricted to a particular geographical location and are becoming a defining feature of the modern economy. These are the free trade agreements among the countries of a particular geographical location. Following the success of European Union, which shows that RTAs can build prosperity and peace, countries in other geographical region came closer to form the similar agreements at the regional level. As a result more than 300 regional trading arrangements were registered under World Trade Organisation, and majority of the countries belonging to European Union, Amer ica, Austria, Africa, and Asian continent joined regional grouping of one sort or the other. Compare to other regions, countries of the Asian continent were the recent entrants for this field, but they rapidly catching up the race. On the other hand, RTAs in African continent

Evaluate factors that influenced the effectiveness of each interaction Essay Example for Free

Evaluate factors that influenced the effectiveness of each interaction Essay In this piece of coursework I will be analysing and evaluating the factors that influence the effectiveness of each interaction in relation to the one to one set at a GP’s for a patient that has really bad back pains and is complaining about how sharp the pain is. I based the one to one interaction on a patient with back problems and they’ve come to the GP’s for something to be given to them. I thought of this because it’s something I went through and I thought it would be nice to let people know what process I went through and how hard it was. The first factor, I thought that influenced the one to one interaction was the patient and doctor taking turns while talking and not interrupting. Turn taking is a major factor that involves our everyday lifestyle and it’s helpful because you know you will get a turn at having your own say. Turn taking helps out a lot especially if you are with younger children or at a GP. For example, the patient came to her doctor and she told her doctor what was wrong with her and how much she’s in pain, the doctor listened to her while she was talking and didn’t ask questions until she finished talking then, the doctor answered all her questions and asked her own questions trying to figure out what was wrong about that patient and what actions will need to be taken for the patient to feel better. Towards the end the doctor referred the patient to her local hospital for an x-ray to see what’s going on. What’s good about turn taking is that everyone listens to each other and you don’t get interrupted also you know you’ll have enough time to talk while others have a chance to think about questions to ask you. The second factor I realised that influenced the one to one interaction was listening. Listening is letting people talk and you concentrating on just what they are saying, listening is a very important communication skill because if you don’t listen you may misunderstand something which may leads you to thinking differently and feeling insecure. Read more: Describe factors which may influence children’s development essay Listening was one factor that influenced the one to one interaction because if one of us didn’t listen while the other person was talking we may have not heard what they were saying or concentrated enough to understand what they were saying which can lead to giving wrong answers which could be a problem to the persons health that’s why when others are talking you always have to listen. For example, in the one to one interaction Emily was my partner and she helped me concentrate listening to  her because little things distract me easily so I had to make sure I listened to her also, we had our script which was used as a prop if we missed out something we carried on listening to each other while looking at what was said to not give the wrong answer. We listened to each other because we knew how important listening is and we were successful at getting through the one to one interaction without not knowing what was going on because we listened to each other. The third factor that also had an influence on the one to one interaction was respect towards each other. Respecting each other shows you give them pride and you are happy about what they are saying or doing also, respect comes from learning to care about people from older ages because we have to respect people to get along with life if we don’t respect then there could be consequences. Respect is very important because we all have to respect everyone no matter what their race, gender, age or features are we have to because we live in a society that moves with respect. For example, if we didn’t respect the army that looks after the country for losing their lives to make the world a much happier place and for us to be safe then that will be a major consequence because what’s the point of those people dying for us if we can’t have a little respect for them. The reason why I thought respect had a influence in the one to one interaction was because if we didnà ¢â‚¬â„¢t respect each other we wouldn’t have been able to understand each other and we wouldn’t have been able to do the doctor and patient script because a doctor always has to respect their patients no matter what happens they have to so does the patient too. An example of this would be, when the patient walked into the room I felt the respect from the patient by the way they answered me and facial expressions. This had a big impact on the interaction because it made it less awkward to talk with the patient and not only was the patient comfortable with asking questions to do with her illness but as a doctor being able to have enough respect from a patient to ask them what areas of the back hurts and being able to have a look at the patients back to check what’s wrong. The last factor that had an influence on the interaction was how professional I was. Being professional can be difficult because if you’ve always been in an environment that’s unprofessional and you don’t know where to use what language that can be an issue. So being professional was key in this interaction because I was a person that had a reputation,  that had power to help people and look after them. If I didn’t act professional the patient could have not taken me serious but I did. The reason why being professional was an influence in the interaction because I realised the more professional you are no matter where you are you will always be looked up to and that’s why I thought it was an influence because it made the patient feel secure with me, it made the patient understand no matter what happens I will always be supporting the patient which would make both of us happy. For example, the minute the patient knocked on the door I dropped everything I was doing and stood up and shock the hand then I made the patient feel welcomed and asked how they were then they started explaining what the problem was and the actions I was doing showed I was professional.

A Speculative View of American History to 1876 :: Essays Papers

A Speculative View of American History to 1876 Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Human nature is one of curiosity; we are not content with the superficial faà §ade of our existence. Rather, we need understanding. We need to know not only know how we have come to be who we are as a people, but more importantly why we are, and where, as a society, we are destined to end. The answer to our relentless question of existence lies in our past. We must look beyond the mere factual account of events which comprises our history, and take on a more speculative approach, and analyze the philosophy of history: in our case, American history. The world has seen many different historical philosophies throughout time. Two contrasting extremes of historical philosophy were those of ancient Greece and Rome, who subscribed to the Stoic cyclical view of history, and Immanuel Kant’s idea of Progress. Karl Marx, in the eighteenth century, established his socialist ideas in a volume he co-authored, The Communist Mani festo. The historical philosophy, however, which best explains the first half of American history, from its birth in Europe, to the civil war, is that of Augustine. Augustine’s theory of history can be detected in his major work, The City of God, in which he explains his concept of the City of Man versus the City of God: â€Å"Accordingly, two cities have been formed by two loves; the earthy love of the self, even to the contempt of God; the heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self. The former, in a word, glories in itself, the latter in the Lord.†1 As Ronald Nash elaborates: Augustine explains that the two cities will coexist through human history, even within the bounds of professing Christendom. Only at the last judgment, which brings human history to an end, will the two cities finally be separated, in order that they may share their appointed destinies of heaven and hell. What accounts for people’s placement in one or the other city is the object of their love. People belong to the City of God by virtue of their love of God; the rest of humanity belongs to the City of Man because of their â€Å"love of self, even to the contempt of God.†2 This monumental work3 originally began as a response to the accusation of Rome’s Christian conversion ultimately contributing to its sack by Alaric and his Goths.

Wolf Lichen

Poisonous but also a healer. It is very abundant in Idaho but very scarce and hard to find in Scandinavia. Wolf Lichen is the name of this mysterious plant. It is one of many different types of lichen found in nature and varies in ways such as habitat, use, and appearance. Lichen is a slow-growing plant genus that is usually structured in a spindle or leaf like shape. Lichen is made up of two components; fungi and algae. (Hollering, J. 014) The Fungal aspect is present in that it contains Chitin in their cell walls, they produce hyphen, spore producing, it is multicultural, and that they deed on dead trees/plants . The algal component means they are eukaryote, are able to photosynthesis, and they have specialized tissues. (Thomas-Sucker, J. 2012) In Wolf Lichen and dead/dying trees form by symbiotic relationships. Symbiosis describes a close interaction between two organisms that benefits/harm at least one of the organisms. Sometimes symbiotic relationships can be beneficial, but can be sometimes harmful. This symbiotic relationship is beneficial to one another, because if we did not have dead or dying plants we could never have Wolf Lichen(Hollering,J. 2014). Wolf Lichen also produces its own food in order for it to survive. To do so, it goes through photosynthetic processes. Photosynthesis starts with trapping the sun's energy in the form of sugar. Then the Wolf Lichen stores the resulting sugar in cells to form glucose for quick growth. Photosynthesis represents the beauty of the chemical process that takes six water molecules from the roots and six carbon dioxide molecules from the air and creates one sugar molecule. If there was no such thing as photosynthesis there would be no life on earth as we know it. (aesthetic, J. , & Comma, C. 014) Lichen are categorized into three different kingdoms, which are Kingdom Fungi, Kingdom Protests, and Kingdom Moaner. One interesting fact about Wolf Lichen is they are able to shut down their metabolism during times when n utrition is scarce and also in freezing weather. Wolf Lichen typically grows less than a millimeter per year. There are a total of 287 different types of species of lichen of 68 genres, and a total of 8 different varieties in Idaho .According to recent research conducted by Dustin Shown, John Areola, and Braided Irishman on the Ph of lichen; Wolf Lichen, along with other lichen have a mean of approximately 4. 1 on the Ph scale. This means that Wolf Lichen have an acidic compound (See figure 1 at presentation). (Thomas-Sucker, J. 2012) Wolf Lichen is also named Lethargy. There are two types of Lethargy (L. ) that are not easily noticeable; L. vulpine and L. Columbian. These two species are very similar in many ways but also very different. L. vulpine is asexual and reproduces with sorehead, while L. Alumina is sexual and does not reproduce with sorehead. L. vulpine is the only lichen that is poisonous. (Hollering,J. 2014) Sorehead is a reproductive structure for lichens. Lichens can reproduce asexually and sexually. Sorehead is a powdery substance composed of fungal hyphen that wraps around contractible. Fungal hyphen make up the basic body structure of lichen. (Conrad,J. 2005) As Wolf Lichen can grow to the size of 1 CM. But can be as large as 12 CM. The branches are round and wrinkled when in very dry conditions. The color ranges from a light yellow-green to a dull yellow. It will not grow in freezing temperatures. However; frost does not kill it, it Just stops growing. Once the weather is warmer the lichen will start growing and reproducing. Wolf Lichen is extremely sensitive to air pollution and will not grow in polluted areas. Wolf Lichen grows on dead trees and stumps. It grows more often on sunny sides of trees and rocks. It does not usually grow in coastal rain forests. (Conrad, J. 2005) In the past people have poisoned wolves and other animals with Wolf Lichen. Since the lichen is poisonous, it allowed the Coachman people in Northern California to use p oison arrow heads.Farmers in the past used pieces of meat, crushed glass, and inserted Wolf Lichen to poison the wolves and other animals that would bother their crops. (aesthetic, J. , & Comma, C. 2014) The lichen has vulpine acid in it which stops the respiratory systems of the animals. The glass is used to damage the intestines of the animals, so that the toxin could attack the body and kill the animals. Wolf Lichen is very poisonous, which made people have to use a mask so they wouldn't harm themselves. (ABA, N. 2011) Wolf Lichen was used as a yellow dye. This dye was used for coloring baskets.Wolf Lichen was also used for medicine. Lichen was used to wash out wounds and cuts, curing their injuries. (Conrad, J. 2005) Statistics show that fifty percent of all lichen are known as an antibiotic. In the United States they used lichen for mouth, stomach, intestines, anus, vagina, nose, ear, and skin pain. While in Finland it was used for treating skin eruptions, skin wounds, and athl ete's foot. (Hollering, J. 2014) In Scandinavia, Wolf Lichen is a rare species and are red-listed, which means that they are in danger of becoming extinct.Wolf lichen used to be abundant in an area of Scandinavia called GarГenslaved, but after the years had passed, Wolf Lichen became scarce and harder to find. The Wolf Lichen was exploited and ruined, so trying to protect GarГenslaved against people who destroyed Wolf Lichen is one thing we can do to hopefully save the Wolf Lichen. Also Wolf Lichen is the most photographed lichen in GarГenslaved. The species are also located around Europe and all the way to North America. (ABA, N. 2011) Although Wolf lichen is scarce in Scandinavia it is very abundant in Idaho.Wolf Lichen is found on most of the trees that are dying or already dead. Wolf Lichen is an indicator that helps people tell if trees or other plants are dead or dying. It can be found all over the town of McCall, Idaho, which is right next to Ponderosa State Park. Wolf Lichen helps the state park by letting them know what trees to cut down or to watch out for so it does not cause any damage to the people visiting or damage to the ecosystem. (Shoehorn, S. 001) Wolf Lichen is mostly found on twigs and stumps of most trees or plants. There are, however, lichen that is found on tree bark, and also houses and fence posts. It sometimes begins on rocks. It usually grows in a thick, solid cover, around and on dead trees and limbs. It is more abundant in numerous habitats where sunlight is more commonly found. (Turner & Kindle, 1998) Overall, Wolf Lichen is a special type of lichen, not only is it poisonous and a healer, but it is the only type of lichen that contains poison. It is also categorized into three different types of Kingdoms which differentiates from all other lichens. Wolf Lichen has many uses. The way people used to use it is very different from how we use it today.
